Museum of Bad Art (MOBA)
The Museum of Bad Art is a world-renowned institution dedicated to "art too bad to be ignored." While it was long a staple of the Somerville Theater basement in Davis Square, its permanent gallery is now located within the Dorchester Brewing Co. in Boston.
MOBA celebrates the labor of artists whose work would be displayed in no other forum. The collection features sincere, original art where the creative intent and the final result are miles apart.
Collection & Exhibits
- Strict Standards: With a collection of about 800 pieces, they show about 50-70 at a time. Curators look for pieces that are compelling and interesting, rather than just kitsch or "boring" bad art.
- Curator Critiques: Every piece is accompanied by a written interpretation that helps the public grasp the "complexities" and technical mishaps of the work.
- Admission: Entry to the gallery is free. The museum is open whenever the brewery taproom is operating, making it a perfect spot for a casual afternoon of culture and craft beer. Please note that on Friday's and Saturday's no one under 21 is admitted after 6PM.
