A bus student fare card enables 16 to 18 year old Surrey students attending full-time education to travel on Surrey buses at the same fare as under 16s. To qualify you must live in one of the 11 boroughs/districts that comprise the administrative county of Surrey, attend a full-time education course and be aged between 16 and 18 (under 19 in the year of application). Your journey must start and/or finish in the administrative county of Surrey. The card is only valid for home to school/college journeys.
You will need to complete an application form and send it in by the following dates to ensure collection from your school or college within the timescales stated.
1. Availability of bus pass on London buses:
Student fare cards are no longer valid on routes operated by London Buses due to revised travel arrangements for 16-17 year old students. The routes affected are:
116, 117 and 166
203, 216, 235, 290 and 293
403, 404, 405, 406, 407, 411, 418, 434, 464, 465, 466, 467 and 470

2. Bus student fare card application form:
Application forms should be submitted with a photograph and a cheque or postal order to the Student Fare Card Team. Cheques should be made payable to Surrey County Council.

3. Concessions for the bus student fare card:
The following bus companies have agreed to charge the under 16 rate for any journey which starts and/or finishes in the administrative county of Surrey, including evenings, weekends, and school/college holidays.

4. Cost of bus student fare card:
The cost of the Student Bus Fare Card is £25.00 and is valid from the date of issue until the end of that academic year.
The card entitles the holder to buy single tickets at the under 16 rate.
Return tickets and season tickets may also be available from some companies at a reduced rate for Student Fare Card holders. Please check with the bus company.
5. Replacement of student fare cards:
To replace a bus student fare card please contact the Student Fare Card Team, enclosing a new passport sized photo and a cheque for £25.00 payable to Surrey County Council. You do not need to complete a new application.
To replace a rail student fare card please contact the Student Fare Card Team to obtain a Duplicate Train Student Fare Application. This should be completed and returned to The Student Fare Card Team with a cheque for £25 payable to Surrey County Council and a current passport size photo. Only one duplicate will be issued in an academic year.
