Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is a private research university located in Worcester, Massachusetts. Founded in 1865, it is one of the oldest technological universities in the United States. The university is known for its strong focus on hands-on, project-based learning and is consistently ranked among the top universities in the country for its undergraduate engineering program.

WPI offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of fields including engineering, science, technology, business, and the social sciences. The university's most popular majors include mechanical engineering, computer science, and biomedical engineering. WPI also offers several interdisciplinary programs, such as the Robotics Engineering program, which combines elements of mechanical engineering, computer science, and electrical engineering.

The university's project-based learning approach, known as the WPI Plan, is a unique feature of the university. Undergraduates at WPI are required to complete a project in their major field of study, in which they apply their knowledge and skills to solve a real-world problem. These projects are completed in teams and are supervised by faculty members. The WPI Plan is designed to provide students with hands-on experience and to prepare them for careers in industry, research, and academia.
