Boston Univeristy, also know as BU, is a private research university located in Boston, Massachusetts, founded in 1839 by Methodists with its original campus in Newbury, Vermont, before moving to Boston in 1867. They offer numerous degree programs (undergraduate minors, undergraduate majors, master's, doctorate and online) with over 250 programs of study in the arts, sciences, engineering, and other fields.
BU's motto is "Learning, Virtue, Piety".
The acceptance rate in 2021 was around 18.3%.
BU has a student body of over 33,000, with students from all 50 states and over 140 countries.
Boston University is known for its top-ranked programs in business, law, and education, and it is also home to a number of research centers and institutes, including the Photonics Center and the Institute for Astrophysical Research. The university has a strong athletics program, with over 20 NCAA Division I sports teams.
Boston University is well known for men's hockey, in which it has won five national championships, most recently in 2009. And it is also well known for its small 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio.
The university is located just south of Kenmore Square and is easily accessible by public transportation, with the MBTA Green Line subway running through the area. Boston University is a major presence in the city and plays a significant role in the cultural and intellectual life of the community.
