What to do to stay safe when heavy rain is predicted

Flash floods doesn't just happen to communities located in low-lying areas near water, it can happen anywhere when heavy rain is predicted. And it can become very dangerous.

Don't drive through flooded roadways especially at night when it's harder to see. You don't know how deep the water really is. 6 inches can reach the bottom of most cars which can cause loss of control and may even stall your car. A foot of water will float many vehicles.

To stay safe, don't walk through moving water. Go to the highest ground possible. Use a stick to check the firmness of the ground in front of you if you have to walk in the water.
