RC-Katrina to bring together hurricane victims that need housing and individuals or entities that have available accommodations. Naturally, this service is free of charge.

This storm has wiped away the homes of hundreds of thousands of people in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. The challenges to follow in re-situating them are enormous. We at MoveOnIn believe we can offer a valuable tool to the agencies and individuals involved in this undertaking. Our flagship site, RoommateClick.com, and its affiliates combine to form the world s leading online roommate matching community. Each month, greater than 750,000 users in the U.S., Canada, and Europe search for roommates and housing on our properties. We are the roommate service providers for partners such as AOL, Yahoo, and Comcast.

Since the introduction of this page more than 26 survivors and 1 cat now have a roof over their head for free and the mission is far from over. Tulane University students and families can now call Boston (and Vermont) home thanks to these wonderful landlords, people that have donated furniture and Kelley Tuthill and the rest of the Channel Five crew who helped to get the word out.

I would also like to thank Mayor Menino and his office staff with their help in matching arriving survivors with the wonderful donations that have been listed on this page. Jim Greene, the Director of Emergency Shelter Commission in Boston was extremely helpful in securing one of the families refuge from the storm today and will continue to work in assisting relocating survivors wherever possible.

I unfortunately must also point out the following disclaimer: The listings posted on this page are donations and should not be construed as illegal postings of classified ads for apartments for rent placed for the purpose of discriminating against others who may need help but are not part of the Hurricane survivors' relief effort of which I am trying to assist. These postings may contain illegal advertising with regard to lead paint and other preferences that would normally be in violation of Federal, State and Local Fair Housing Laws. These ads are only being allowed as people are being specific to what they can donate and who would benefit best so as to expedite the move-in process for those who need the help of the limited resources available. The landlords and I are receiving no compensation for the donated units and therefore they should be deemed exempt for the purpose of this emergency and for effective use of available assets for those that need them.

I have already had to fight this year in Federal Court (and won) the Fair Housing Center of Greater Boston with regard to liability of the ads that are placed on BostonApartments.com. The above disclaimer is to notify them and everyone else that I understand the Fair Housing Laws and believe that these ads should be protected as the units are not for rent but in fact are free donations and acts of charity. Hopefully I will not have to spend another $20,000 defending myself because of this effort. The landlords that are advertising their donations should also be held harmless for any postings on this page or for any liability that may arise out of their donation of housing.

Unfortunately we have learned that we have not learned much from 9/11 when it comes to preparedness in America for an unexpected disaster. Our government may be able to afford and move needed assets, but cannot execute deployment of these assets on an as needed basis with coordinated communication. This effort has shown me that even with Homeland Security reorganization, when it comes to giving aid and reacting to a disaster, the Federal Government cannot do anything unless the state asks, the state can't do anything unless the city or town asks (and we'll not touch the interstate situation). If the aid is free, it seems to add even more layers of complexity to the distribution. There was one shining exception to the rule of red tape and prepared stock responses I encountered while attempting to get help in this effort from the governement and that was Mayor Menino's office. We are very lucky to have an administration like his running the city of Boston. We tend to bash our politicians as we do our ballplayers. Today Mayor Menino hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th for new arrivals to Boston. We are a city of champions, filled with our wonderful private donors, our mayor and his staff, and our sports heros who have made donations to the cause. The rings are just a bonus!

This page has sparked requests for permanent free and discounted housing for the homeless who are that way not by natural disaster but of an individual variety. When this page has run it's course and is removed from the web, it is my hope that people still have the momentum to continue to help those less fortunate that are not victims of Katrina.

Thanks again to all of you who have donated, visited, wrote, met, aided or just survived for showing me what makes America great and Boston my hometown.

Sincerely,

Eric Boyer
